Donald Trump was declared the winner of the 2016 U.S. presidential election in the early hours, against most pre-election polling, which had shown Hillary Clinton favored in the closing days of the race. Markets swung sharply overnight as the result became clear. It followed an unusually divisive campaign on both sides, and for a lot of people, whichever way they'd voted, waking up to the confirmed result the next morning is one of the more distinct "where was I when I found out" mornings of the decade.
