Brazil beat Germany 2-0 in Yokohama to win a record fifth World Cup, with both goals coming from Ronaldo — the striker's own remarkable comeback story, having nearly had his career ended by knee injuries just two years earlier. It was the first World Cup co-hosted by two countries, South Korea and Japan, and the first held in Asia. Ronaldo finished as the tournament's top scorer with eight goals, in what's still widely remembered as one of the great redemption arcs in football, on top of being a genuinely dominant Brazil side.
